Scott Newlin is an industrial designer and the Vice President of Design at Harry’s, having joined the company in its infancy in 2013. With design being one of the company’s central pillars, Scott leads design across all touchpoints of the company - from physical products and packaging to branded environments. Functioning as an in-house design studio, Scott’s team is tasked with elevating the experience of men’s care.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I love architecture and travel. So, whenever I can combine the two it's really amazing. I recently went to the Barbican in London - I could live there, happily.
Which living person do you most admire?
What is your greatest extravagance?
I collect design objects, so spend a lot of time on and some money on Ebay.
What is your current state of mind?
Just working hard and trying to enjoy my time doing it.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Being right. I like experimentation and failure. I think being right all the time can be boring.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
“Like” and “um”.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to be a bit more spontaneous - I’m pretty planned out. Also, I wish I could dunk a basketball
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I wish I was a bit taller so that I could dunk a basketball.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I’ve really worked hard to build a great career and a life in New York.
If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?
A bodega cat. They seem cool and streetwise.
