Helen Brough is a British artist. Educated at Chelsea School of Art in London, achieving B.A. Honors First Class and a M.A in sculpture. Her awards in England include the Prix de Rome at the British school in Rome, and the Prince Charles travel scholarship. The Soros foundation has funded her exhibitions in Romania and Hungary. In America she has received funding from the Pollock/Krasner Foundation and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. In 2003 she had her first solo show in New York City, shortly after this she was awarded a Triangle residency for 6 months in DUMBO/Brooklyn, NY and selected for the Triangle workshop in 2004. In May 2006 the permanent sculpture commission "Emulated Flora" opened at 70 Washington Street, DUMBO/Brooklyn, NY. Various group and solo shows followed in the UK and USA and in 2016 and 2017 she started exhibiting with The Other Art Fair in London and Brooklyn. In 2017 she was commissioned by British Land to create a sculpture for the Primrose Atrium in Broadgate for the Shaped by Design season and in 2018 was short listed for the large sculpture commission at the Buffett Cancer Center, Omaha Nebraska. In 2019 her first solo Exhibition with The Nordic Art Agency Malmo, Sweden and in the same year was awarded a QEST Scholarship. In 2020 she had her first virtual solo Exhibition with Aleph Contemporary. Helen Brough is represented by Nordic Art Agency and Aleph Contemporary.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?: Swimming in the Sea.

Which living person do you most admire?: JK ROWLING.

What is your greatest extravagance?: Expensive coffee beans.

What is your current state of mind?: I feel as if I am in a time warp.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?: Moral high ground.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?: I tend to repeat myself a lot so I think I say everything two or three times.

Which talent would you most like to have?: To be able to sing in key.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?: To be more patient.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?: Being able to survive as an artist.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?: The sea.

Where would you most like to live?: I have grown to love London again but there will always be a part of me that misses New York City.

What is your most treasured possession?: My family.

What is your favorite occupation?: Painting.

What is your most marked characteristic?: I can be very loud!

What do you most value in your friends?: Loyalty.

Who is your hero of fiction?: Harry Potter.

Who are your heroes in real life?: My husband.
