Noah is a designer trying to transform the production of things into a regenerative and positive act for the world. Right now that is done as the Sustainable Design Lead within Nike’s Innovation Kitchen. His best example to offer is Space Hippie. Start where you are, use what you’ve got: there is no point in waiting for future materials and processes to save manufacturing. The biggest impact we can have is the one we can begin immediately with familiar tools and materials. Through that a better future can grow. He was previously Director of Industrial Design at Fuseproject, responsible for numerous products in consumer electronics, furniture, robots and wearable devices made by Herman Miller, Samsung and iRobot. Outside of commerce, he collaborates with the Futurefarmers artist collective. When not tackling systemic problems,Noahcreates practical problems by sailing a small wooden boat with his wife and daughter in the cold waters around San Francisco CA and Portland, OR.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?: Watching the fog cover San Francisco at sunset.

What is your greatest extravagance?: Germain Robin XO

What is your current state of mind?: Total transformation

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?: Organization and planning

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?:" I think the important thing is . . . "

Which talent would you most like to have?: I wish I could dance.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?: Patience. I naturally have a ton of it, but it can lead me into the acceptance of things that should be addressed immediately if I'm not mindful.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?: I would come back as fog, wrapping and blurring everything.

What is your most treasured possession?: A small wooden sailboat. Its a near perfect blend of human craft and natural systems. Its the principle for how all future technology should work.

What is your most marked characteristic?: Always calm

What do you most value in your friends?: Honesty with ease.

Who are your favorite writers?: William Gibson, Wendell Berry, James Baldwin

Who are your heroes in real life?: My grandfather Joseph Denis Murphy was an architect in St Louis. He won the Paris Prize and designed many churches and the Climatron in his home town. He is an example to me of how to be when you find yourself in success and privilege; humble, kind, generous and collaborative.

What is it that you most dislike?: Climate Change denial -the idea that a healthy and thriving earth is somehow in opposition to prosperity and progress

.What is your motto?: Start where you are, use what you've got
